Week of Welcome (August 17 – 26)

There is no other way to kick-off a semester that Week of Welcome! WOW is a week of FREE events welcoming new and returning students to Lincoln College. WOW is coordinated and promoted by the Office of Student Activities, but made possible by the dozen of student organizations and campus partners sponsoring events throughout the week.

LynxFest is the best place to find out how you can get involved at Lincoln College and in the community. LynxFest takes place during the Week of Welcome in August, held on the Quad and Davidson-Sheffer Gymnasium. Over a hundred student organizations, campus departments, and community organizations and businesses come together to welcome our students.

Ken E. Nwadike Jr. “Free Hugs Guy” | September 19th  at 7:00 p.m. in the Lincoln Center

Ken E. Nwadike Jr. is a peace activist, motivational speaker and video journalist known as the Free Hugs Guy online. He is the found of the Free Hugs Project, which produces motivational videos to spread love, inspire change and raise awareness of social issues. His “Free Hugs” videos have reached hundreds of millions of viewers on Facebook and YouTube. 

 In 2014 Ken launched the Free Hugs Project to spread love in response to the bombing of the Boston Marathon. The Free Hugs Project gained popularity in 2016 and he made major news headlines for his peacekeeping efforts and de-escalating violence during protests, riots and political rallies. He was featured in Google’s 2016 Year in Search video as a highlight of some of the year’s most defining moments. Ken has made many appearances on news programs and radio broadcasts worl-wide including CNN, USA Today, “Good Morning Britain,” and BBC News. In 2017, he intends to continue his mission and further pursue a certification in Kingian Nonviolence.

Ken touches students’ hearts and minds, engaging them in conversations of understanding and compassion amidst the rising tide of hatred and racism. He interacts with students on campus and ends with a keynote that will create unity and build community, reminding students we are all human beings in need of love.
